TERRY SWANN – Working in Isolation

“Having to work indoors is not easy for a plein air painter but enjoying the winter sunshine here in Victoria.”

“I am drawn to the wilderness, to truly natural, wild places. The sense of place and all that’s happening in the environment around me is expressed through my paintings.” Terry Swann

Swann’s work is strongly bound to place, the mood of the landscape and her own emotions capture and reflect with a perspective, vibrancy and colour-palette that is uniquely Australian. Work is held in numerous private and public collections including the State Library of Brisbane, State Parliament House of Queensland and Federal Parliament Offices Brisbane.

As a plein air painter, Swann works in the wilderness alone and even though there is a driver, she is free to immerse herself in a landscape that’s utterly remote, that’s been left in peace without interference to be shaped by the seasons. Her work has taken her around the world, but it is the remote Australian landscape that captivates her.

“We are hiding ourselves away from Covid at our beach cottage on Port Phillip Bay which is where I can go and paint anytime. The coastline is beautiful, wild and unspoiled. Having to work indoors- not easy for a plein air painter but enjoying the winter sunshine here in Victoria”

I can’t wait for the freedom to get out there into our beautiful country to paint again!” Terry Swann
