The depth and emotion and radiance of light in his paintings capture his audience\u2019s heart and is what keeps them coming back for more. \u00a0In the <a href=\"http:\/\/redhillgallery.com.au\/HermanPekel2012.html\" target=\"_blank\">current exhibition<\/a> Herman has depicted iconic scenes from Brisbane and Paris.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Herman your paintings really seem to have an inner luminosity, it almost seems like the light is radiating out from the paintings. Your ability to render light is what makes you a superb artist, is this an intrinsic quality your painting has always had or something you think that has developed in your work over time?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HP:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Light and atmosphere have been two integral aspects of my work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What or who inspired you to first pick up a paintbrush?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HP:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 My father, after he brought home two original oils from the market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What do you do when you are not working on your art?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HP:<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sport \u2013 Tennis and table tennis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Share something about yourself that might surprise our readers?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HP: \u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019d hate to say.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Who in your life do you admire most?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HP: \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Margaret* \u2013 she can sell my work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I suppose a lot of people like to imagine artists to be either eccentric and over the top or broody and romantic. What do you think of these stereotypes?
