In his latest exhibition titled \u2018You Beauty\u2019 Reilly has teamed his unique style with references to iconic Australian artists such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au\/collection\/artists\/nolan-sidney\/\">Sidney Nolan<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au\/collection\/artists\/boyd-arthur\/\">Arthur Boyd<\/a>. Reilly draws upon cultural iconography and emblematic Australian symbols to depict his current reflections of Australia &#8211; an interpretation which lays bare the \u201cglory, tragedy and struggle\u201d that has come to shape our collective identity. It began as a literary journal founded by four poets:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/art-terms\/a\/angry-penguins\">Donald Kerr, Maxwell Harris,&nbsp;Paul Pfeiffer and Geoffrey Dutton<\/a>, who all studied at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelaide.edu.au\/\">University of Adelaide<\/a>. Between 1946-47, Nolan painted his famous <a href=\"https:\/\/nga.gov.au\/nolan\/\">Ned Kelly series<\/a> which depicted the scenes of the icon, his escapades and existence. As <a href=\"https:\/\/oa.anu.edu.au\/obituary\/serle-alan-geoffrey-geoff-13512\">Serle Geoffery<\/a> wrote in his 1971 journal article titled, <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com.au\/books\/about\/The_Rush_to_be_Rich.html?id=p6LLvZrgTbQC&amp;redir_esc=y\">The Rush to Be Rich: A History of the Colony of Victoria 1883-1889<\/a>, Kelly was &#8220;the last expression of the lawless frontier in what was becoming a highly organised and educated society, the last protest of the mighty bush now tethered with iron rails to Melbourne and the world&#8221;. It seems fitting that in a time of tightened government regulation brought on by the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=covd+19&amp;rlz=1C1GCEA_enAU803AU803&amp;oq=covd+19&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j0i10j0i10i433j0i10l2j0i131i433j0i10i433l2j0i10l2.1342j0j7&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\">global pandemic<\/a>, that Reilly has painted artworks which aligned with this previous era of Australian history.
