We couldn\u2019t wait to interview him and find out a little more about him and his wonderful paintings.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3529\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ken-Strong02.jpg\" alt=\"Ken-Strong02\" width=\"760\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ken-Strong02.jpg 760w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ken-Strong02-300x106.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><strong>AC: Can you remember you earliest motivation to pursue a career as an artist?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KS: I have always had the desire to paint, even in early years in Primary School.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure where the motivation came to persue an art career, but I was fortunate to be surrounded by magnificent landscape and seascape when initially living adjoining the <a title=\"Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au\/visit-a-park\/parks\/Kuringgai-Chase-National-Park\" target=\"_blank\">Kuringai Chase<\/a> in <a title=\"Sydney Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sydney.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sydney<\/a> as a child to be later followed by <a title=\"Brisbane National Park\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au\/visit-a-park\/parks\/Brisbane-Water-National-Park\" target=\"_blank\">Brisbane Water <\/a>on the Central Coast.\u00a0 I was also fortunate to have a friend at school whose father was a professional artist &#8211; David Perks.\u00a0 Davids work which I have always admired, provided a substantial degree of motivation for me to further develop my own approach.\u00a0 All these combined with my early love of painting came together over the years with where I am today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: You have discussed the importance of composition to your painting, how valuable are the other formal elements such as line, colour and form when painting for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KS:\u00a0I have a very strong focus on sketching my compositions prior to commencing on the canvas or board.\u00a0 I am looking for movement, balance, identification of the subject, use of directional lines within the texture of the paint to reinforce the important elements of the work.\u00a0 I may sketch a work several times, playing with options to achieve the best result.\u00a0 One thing seems to always result, there are many ways of achieveing a successfully composition and in most cases, although there is always a plan, the finished result including nd changes to its development will always occur during the painting process.\u00a0 It is like the brush has a mind of its own and will often find a path creating an interesting texture or contrast which benefits the overall composition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: If you could work with any other artist from any era who would it be and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>KS: I have changed my opinion on this several times over the years.\u00a0 20 years ago I would have said <a title=\"Tom Roberts Biography \" href=\"http:\/\/adb.anu.edu.au\/biography\/roberts-thomas-william-tom-8229\" target=\"_blank\">Tom Roberts<\/a>, <a title=\"Authur Streeton Biography\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ngv.vic.gov.au\/explore\/collection\/artist\/540\/\" target=\"_blank\">Authur Streeton <\/a>and <a title=\"Frederick McCubbin Biography\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ngv.vic.gov.au\/explore\/collection\/artist\/3545\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fred McCubbin<\/a>.\u00a0 Today however, I would love to have a go with <a title=\"Joseph Turner\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tate.org.uk\/art\/research-publications\/jmw-turner\/joseph-mallord-william-turner-1775-1851-r1141041\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Turner<\/a>, <a title=\"Brett Whiteley Home Page -
