A cacophony filled the air as the light began to fade; this was the experience when I took visiting relatives to <a title=\"Burleigh Heads Webpage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.visitgoldcoast.com\/places-to-see\/burleigh-heads\/\" target=\"_blank\">Burleigh Heads<\/a> to experience this colourful phenomenon.<\/em> <em><a title=\"Rainbow Lorikeet Bird Life Australia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.birdlife.org.au\/bird-profile\/rainbow-lorikeet\" target=\"_blank\">Lorikeets<\/a> in their thousands, a feeding frenzy in the pine trees discarded pine cone bits rained down from the trees intermingled with a noise that could shatter champagne glasses.<\/em> <em>One of the visitors, happily not a relative, complained.<\/em> <em>I actually had my cockatoo and parrot fascination rekindled at my son\u2019s place a few months ago when they flew on to his veranda for a feed &#8230; creamy white, huge blue black beaks and feet, crests rising up and down as they surveyed the scene intently&#8230;<\/em> <em>And they\u2019re all around me on the Coast as they screech and fly in enormous numbers, plopping on trees and writhing around upside down, encircling their food in an ever moving, noisy tea party.<\/em> <em>I first became aware of them when living in <a title=\"Visit New South Wales Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.visitnsw.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">New South Wales &#8230; B<\/a><a title=\"Cockatoo Bird Life Australia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.birdlife.org.au\/bird-profile\/carnabys-black-cockatoo\" target=\"_blank\">lack Cockatoos <\/a>appearing like menacing bullies &#8230; wings beating slowly and methodically as they shrieked in,\u00a0usually at New Year! That\u2019s when I first came up with the idea. <a title=\"King Parrot Bird Life Home Page\" href=\"http:\/\/birdlife.org.au\/bird-profile\/australian-king-parrot\" target=\"_blank\">King Parrots<\/a>, <a title=\"Grass Parrot Bird Life Australia Page\" href=\"http:\/\/birdlife.org.au\/bird-profile\/Blue-winged-Parrot\" target=\"_blank\">Grass Parrots<\/a>, <a title=\"Rosellas Home \" href=\"http:\/\/www.birdlife.org.au\/bird-profile\/pale-headed-rosella\" target=\"_blank\">Rosellas<\/a>, Lorikeets &#8230; you name them we had them in our back yard.<\/em> <em>I did a series which went into print and was distributed in most countries; yes, an\u00a0international blitz of my parrots&#8230;.all imaginary of course &#8230; just loosely based on reality &#8230; but giving, I hope, the experience of these exotic birds in all their colourful, idiosyncratic\u00a0glory.<\/em> <em>\u00a0<\/em><em>There\u2019s a number of other works in my 2015 show. As you can see my imagination never tires!&#8221;, <\/em>John Maitland.
