href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/MichaelParker.html\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Parker<\/a> explains the story that inspired him to paint his unique boat series.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPainting from my studio in Mordialloc, I was asked by a gallery in <a title=\"South Australia\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southaustralia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">South Australia <\/a>to create a painting for an exhibition to celebrate the towns\u2019 annual <a title=\"South Australian Wooden Boat Festival\" href=\"https:\/\/www.woodenboatfestival.com.au\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Wooden Boat Festival<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I wanted my painting to be unique- something that would stand out in the exhibition.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I took a walk for inspiration to Pompi\u2019s Boats- a boat builder specialising in wooden boats not far from my studio, and I was immediately taken with the beautiful textures of the old boats in the yard.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some of the old boats had copper-covered hulls, beautifully patina\u2019d by the salt water and there were patches scattered over the hull where, I guessed the boat had hit up against rocks.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MichaelParker02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3334\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/MichaelParker02.jpg\" alt=\"Michael Parker\" width=\"760\" height=\"362\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It was here that my idea was born to recreate the side of the boat using recycled timber as my canvas, along with copper and patches of metal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Thus, each timber plank is first prepared and then hand-nailed to a wooden frame to create the panels of a wooden boat.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The boats are then painted from photos that I have taken, and continue to take whilst on my travels.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I use acrylics oils and copper as my mediums.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I hope that you enjoy the boat prominent male artist <a title=\"Warren Salter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/WarrenSalter.html\" target=\"_blank\">Warren Salter <\/a>and <a title=\"Dan Mason\" href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/DanMason.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Mason <\/a>in the exhibition &#8220;All Afloat&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Hill Art Gallery Home Page\"
