Largely self taught Larissa is a highly sought after tutor and we are so lucky to be able to have her in our Summer Quartet exhibition at <strong><a title=\"Red Hill Gallery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Red Hill Galler<\/a>y,\u00a0<a title=\"Brisbane\" href=\"http:\/\/www.visitbrisbane.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brisbane<\/a><\/strong> \u00a0during the month of December.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3143\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01.jpg\" alt=\"Larissa Blake\" width=\"800\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/01-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Larissa Blake<\/strong> is a gifted colourist; her work references the domestic and feminine domains in a celebratory context, using an exuberant, joyful, uplifting colour palette.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: Larissa, could you describe your art to our readers.<\/strong><br \/>\nLB: My images are deconstructed so that I can be expressive with my mark making, and it\u2019s all about colour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: Has a career in art always been in the pipeline or did you\u00a0<\/strong><strong>have other aspirations growing up<\/strong>?<br \/>\nLB: I\u2019ve always wanted to be an artist, though I didn\u2019t start painting till my late 20\u2019s. I did a degree in <a title=\"Marketing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brisbanemarketing.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marketin<\/a>g , but was disappointed it wasn\u2019t as creative as I\u2019d hoped. I was studying <a title=\"Herbalism\" href=\"http:\/\/www.naturalhealthschool.com\/history-of-herbalism.html\" target=\"_blank\">Herbalism<\/a> \u00a0with the intention of becoming a naturopath but dropped out to pursue my painting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: You have quite a distinctive, raw and spontaneous style which radiates energy, have you always painted this way or did you experiment a lot before deciding this was you?<\/strong><br \/>\nLB: It has been a 14 year process of experimenting and pushing myself to be more gestural. It takes a lot of practice to make bold expressive marks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: The upcoming exhibition has scenes from your travels abroad and at home. What inspires you to paint a particular scene?<\/strong><br \/>\nLB: It\u2019s normally aesthetic for me; I\u2019m simply drawn to something visually and or emotionally.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3145\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/03.jpg\" alt=\"Larissa Blake\" width=\"800\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/03.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/03-300x94.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: You tutor quite regularly, do you find this rewarding? If so, in what way?<\/strong><br \/>\nLB: I love teaching, it\u2019s so rewarding when students grasp a concept and produce something out of their comfort zone. The likeminded company is also inspiring; painting can be a lonely gig.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: Where have you travelled around the world and what country and city\/town\/suburb is your favourite place? \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>LB: Europe, India, China, <a title=\"Morocco\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyplanet.com\/morocco\" target=\"_blank\">Morocco<\/a> , lots of Asian countries but my absolute favourite city at the moment is New York City. We stayed in Soho in this awesome hotel called the Mondrian . The painting love in NYC is from the Mondrian\u2019s nightclub (not that I went clubbing &#8211; I was pregnant!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>AC: What sort of music do you listen to while you paint?<\/strong><br \/>\nLB: Anything but classical, I\u2019m a pop and rock\u2019n&#8217; roll girl.
