The subject matter of his work has a mysterious quality which allows people to weave their own personal stories into the paintings making him a highly\u00a0collectable\u00a0artist.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John Maitland\u2019s innovative style is created outdoors by exposing his paintings to the elements. Through the heat of the sun, the built up layers in his paintings are left to crack and fissure giving an aged appearance. John\u2019s beautiful and innocent subject matter is depicted through his use of lively colours and broad brushstrokes, creating an \u2018enlightened\u2019 style of stunning pieces of art. An expressive painter his work is imbued with energy and movement and is heavily weighted with texture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/?attachment_id=1683\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1683\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1683\" title=\"JM02\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/JM021.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/JM021.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/JM021-300x127.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><em>\u201cI always yearn for the vibration which excites my soul. I never know when it will strike or what form it will take but it is never the obvious\u201d \u2013 John Maitland<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nominated as a finalist in the 1993 \u201cTribute to Mary MacKillop\u201d exhibition, his painting was also recognised as one of the finest pieces in the show. This painting was then included as part of a national tour in 1996 and was hung in Parliament House, Canberra, The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney and The State Gallery of South Australia.
