Renowned for his paintings of many famous Australians, including<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Elisabeth_Murdoch_(philanthropist)\">philanthropist<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/national\/dame-elisabeth-passes-away-at-103-20121206-2awby.html\">DameElisabeth Murdoch<\/a> 1909 \u20132012 , <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/national\/victoria-loses-man-who-gave-so-much-20090825-ey4m.html\">Dr Joseph Brown<\/a> 1933-2009\u00a0 (NB both portraits were selected as \u00a0finalists in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au\/prizes\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Archibald Prize <\/a>2008\/2009) and <a href=\"http:\/\/licunxin.com\/bio.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Li Cunxin<\/a>\u00a0 (Mao\u2019s Last Dancer, recently\u00a0 appointed Artistic Director, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.queenslandballet.com.au\/media\/press-releases\/2012\/li-cunxin-announced-new-artistic-director\/).\" target=\"_blank\">Queensland Ballet.<\/a>)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/?attachment_id=1224\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1224\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1224\" title=\"YearOfSnake01\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake011.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake011.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake011-300x109.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/FuHong.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Fu Hong\u00a0 <\/strong><\/a><strong><\/strong>is undeniably a master of composition, light and colour.\u00a0 The luminous bursts of colour that often appear are mirror images of Fu Hong&#8217;s own infectious exuberance for life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/EchoChai.html  \" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Echo Chai<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 graduated from <a href=\"http:\/\/english.pku.edu.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\">Peking University\u00a0<\/a> with a Bachelor Degree of Art in Literature in Beijing, China and moved to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.australia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Australia\u00a0<\/a> in 1989.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/?attachment_id=1225\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1225\" title=\"YearOfSnake02\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake02.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.artchat.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/YearOfSnake02-300x109.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a>Echo was mentored in oil painting by the highly commended artist Fu Hong. She has been awarded and selected as a finalist in numerous art awards. \u00a0Echo is also a photographer and in 2009 was a finalist of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.minghui.org\/html\/articles\/2009\/11\/24\/112592.html\" target=\"_blank\">NTDTV Photography Competition<\/a>\u00a0 in New York, USA.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Fu Hong and Echo Chai are both busy celebrating <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chinese_New_Year\" target=\"_blank\">Chinese New Year<\/a>, but we promise we will catch up with them for an interview. So stay tuned for an insight into the world of these two very accomplished artists. \u00a0In the meantime enjoy their paintings available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redhillgallery.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Red Hill Gallery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cYear of the Snake\u201d we also salute a Brisbane icon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.multiculturalaustralia.edu.au\/doc\/mok_liu.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Eddie Liu<\/strong> OBE, OAM\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 a long time friend of our Gallery Director Graham Campbell-Ryder and well respected patriarch of the Chinese community in Brisbane<\/p>\n<p>What would Chinese New Year be without food, our favourite restaurant the award winning <a href=\"http:\/\/chinaseamilton.com.au\/  \" target=\"_blank\">China Seas at Milton<\/a> will be cooking up a storm. We recommend you try their Salt and Pepper Squid<\/p>\n<p>Many will have fond memories of Celebrating Chinese New Year.\u00a0 Our director Margaret Campbell-Ryder remembers well the many celebrations she attended growing up in <a href=\" http:\/\/www.bendigotourism.com\/about-bendigo\" target=\"_blank\">Bendigo<\/a>,\u00a0 Victoria particularly the Bendigo Easter Fair. \u00a0The Easter procession and the main highlight was the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bendigo_Easter_Festival \" target=\"_blank\">Chinese Dragon \u201c<\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bendigo_Easter_Festival \" target=\"_blank\">Sun Loong<\/a>\u201d<\/em>,\u00a0 the longest imperial dragon in the world, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chia.chinesemuseum.com.au\/biogs\/CH00893b.htm\" target=\"_blank\">dancing through the streets of Bendigo.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Every year her family would be there to see this magnificent Dragon and marvel at its beauty but Margaret does admit to hiding behind her dad and peeping out sometimes.\u00a0 (NO &#8211; we find that hard to believe!)\u00a0 Today that beautiful piece of heritage still resides in its home in Bendigo, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goldendragonmuseum.org\/ \" target=\"_blank\">Golden Dragon Museum<\/a>\u00a0 one of the oldest Chinese communities in Australia with a tradition dating back as far as maybe 1850\u2019s -1880\u2019s?<\/p>\n<p>Do you too have fond memories of celebrating Chinese New year?
