Aleida van der Hoogte - Ekka in Brisbane

Ekka 2011 is in full swing at the historical RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane, and what a fantastic opportunity to share with you work based on the Ekka from artist Aleida van der Hoogte.

Aleida’s  paintings present a vibrant ‘moment-in-time and social observation of the famous Brisbane Ekka’.  Aleida has expanded her trademark fusion of Baroque-inspired  florals in dramatic contemporary compositions to  include portraits , landscapes and dramatic abstracts in a recent exhibition at Red Hill Gallery – View here.

Ekka through the eyes of fabulous artist Aleida van der Hoogte

“The ability of the Flemish Renaissance painter  Pieter Bruegel the Elder to paint a moment  that captured the costume, colour,  culture and character of the time and  place has always impressed me. I’ve  tried to paint moments in time that  reflect all of those realities here and now”. – Aleida van der Hoogte

Another Successful Exhibition Opening!

We are all abuzz from a very successful exhibition Red Hill Gallery opened on Friday night, featuring work from the very talented Loretta Blake and fabulously creative Pierre Bernabeu – “A Hint of Lavender & Roses.”

Loretta Blake

Loretta Blake is one of Australias foremost floral artists. She is inspired by the beauty of her garden and shares that with us in her work.

A packed room full of art lovers and buyers, cold champagne flowing in our beautiful courtyard and a team of staff on board to ensure the evening runs smoothly and of course, there are sales for our very hard working artists.
Pierre Bernabeu

Pierre Bernabeu paints the scenes of his home in Provence, stunning images of an eternally beautiful landscape.

The gallery goes through a transformation every month when we get ready for a new show and there is a lot of work that goes into every step, from recieving the art work to the gallery, through to the all important pre-sell, the 3 day hang and install, ensuring we have covered all print and digital media… and that is just to get ready for the opening!
Congratulations to Loretta and Pierre and the Red Hill Gallery!

Red Hill Gallery Recognises its 25th Year of Business

This month another milestone for Red Hill Gallery as it recognises its 25th year of business.

In August 1986 RED HILL GALLERY opened and introduced  to Brisbane  art lovers a gallery for everyone and it has achieved a remarkable and proud history since those days.

Many wonderful artists have presented their paintings, glass art, sculpture and wearable art in the Gallery and sold many creative artworks to adorn the homes and offices of this City and way way beyond.

Everyone here is very excited about this outstanding piece of Gallery history.

RED HILL GALLERY opened in August, 1986 and, throughout those wonderful 25 years to today, it has proudly become one of Brisbane’s best and most respected Art Galleries.

It has become so by the participation of hundreds of outstanding Australian artists who have, over that time, presented their unique artistic talents within its walls.

It has become so by the support of the thousands of art enthusiasts who have regularly bought their artistic works for your homes or offices for that quiet but ever present personal enjoyment.

Never before has such an eclectic mix of unique, thought provoking work graced the walls of the Red Hill Gallery.  “We are honoured to present such varied modes of representation, visual perception and interpretation in what is a truly dramatic showcase

Throughout the gallery you move from artist to artist and painting to painting allowing one to appreciate the specific differences of artistic style that properly distinguishes why we all love art but for so many differing reasons. Our own personal instincts and tastes come first and that is how it should always be.

The unique and established creative style of each artist is strikingly evident when one can see so many diverse works of art side-by-side on the well lit wall space of a homely and friendly Gallery such as this.

If you are in Brisbane stop into the Red Hill Gallery – If you are unable to come in you can keep intouch via our very comprehensive website – Here.

Art @ home, how do you do it?

Are you a minimist, loving the one fabulous piece that draws the room together, letting that feature piece tell the story? Or do you love an ecletic mix of colour and texture, filling a room and engulfing every space, creating a tapestry of excitement and wonder?

Art in the home is a personal thing, it tells your guests who you are, where you have been, what you believe, what drives you…  It entices you into a room, adding depth and light.

We love it when clients excitedly get out their camera phones to show us rooms in their homes that hold their favourite art finds!  As we move further into our blog we will add some of these to the image gallery to share with you.

Do you love the minimilist look or do you love a wall hung from floor to ceiling?

Red Hill Gallery – Our Historic Brisbane

This quaint turn-of-the-century building was originally where the Whitehouse family made their famous Whitehouse Organs in the early 1900’s.  Those organs were made there and then placed in most City Halls and civic buildings, Cathedrals and churches throughout Australia and New Zealand, including our neighbouring church, St Brigids Red Hill.  St Brigids boasts one of The Whitehouse Bros earliest organs and was opened, along with the church itself, in 1914.

Red Hill Gallery, A Unique Space

Red Hill Gallery has become a structural and commercial landmark in Brisbane, established for 25 years

The building was subsequently used to house a printing company and even a confectioners!  We proudly open the doors to the Red Hill Gallery 7 days a week and show work from some amazing and talented artists on our historic walls.   Our building is  full of history and character, so come in and visit us next time you are in Red Hill, Brisbane.

Further Down the Rabbit Hole - Starr

Brisbane is home to New Traditionalist Starr, and is represented there by Red Hill Gallery.  Starr creates work that becomes contemporary icons, and none more so than Brisbanes own, Story Bridge.

Construction on the Story Bridge began in 1935 and was opened on 6th July 1940 at the cost of sixpence (5 cents, havent times changed!).

River Fire - Starr

The Story Bridge features prominently in the annual RiverFire display.  Bridge climbs began in 2005 and are becoming a major tourist attraction.

We hope to be “twitterveiwing” Starr soon and will ask her about her facination with Brisbanes iconic Story bridge.

Art for Arts Sake

What a great gallery girls night out last night! We attended the Gala Opening of Art for Arts Sake at the Riverside Centre Foyer, held every year to raise funds for the Cerebal Palsy League – it was well supported by local business and buyers, a fantastic success.  We even picked up some beautiful artwork ourselves!

The Gap Community Art Show

Red Hill Gallery was pleased to support The Gap Community Art Show held at the Hilder Road State School, The Gap, Brisbane.  We enjoyed opening night last night with wine and cheese. The evening was well attended and the show will continue for the week-end, 21st and 22nd May.

The show attracted a large selection of entries from the school students as well as many local and prefessional artists.  The paintings were judged by well known Brisbane artist Starr, toegether with our fabulous art consultants Hilary O’Donnell and Margot Nelson.

We congratulate Carol Lee Beckx, the overall winner with her still life entry “Patisserie”, oil on canvas.  As part of her prize a selection of her work will be displayed at Red Hill Gallery for two weeks.
